Friends, As a part of my research for my PhD thesis, I've been retrieving information on tourism in South America. One useful tool is a review called "Estudios y Perspectivas en turismo" (http://www.estudiosenturismo.com.ar/) it's an indexed review with several years of research accessible directly through the web with no need of register or payment.  I just wanted to share the website. Although it's published in Argentina, most of the articles come from Brazil and the subjects are mainly related to tourism management issues. It is, however also possible to find papers related to protected areas and ecotourism in both Chile, Argentina and Brazil. Hope it helps!...

  Cada 1-2 semanas Wallerstein hace un comentario en su sitio web.   El de esta semana se llama "¿Deberíamos discutir acerca de la pobreza?" En él, hace una reflexión sobre la forma en que ésta ha sido vista desde la época Tatcheriana y luego pasa al debate Kissinger vs. FMI-BM en el que el primero alguna vez discutió el trabajo del FMI (sólo para mostrar que incluso entre ellos debaten, porque hay quienes insisten que es una sola "mano dominante en el mundo") en el que las recetas económicas se ponían en oposición a las políticas: pone el ejemplo de Indonesia, donde había un dictador "controlable" por USA y que con las recetas del FMI lo que se logró fue que lo derrocaran, dejando así una crisis no sólo económica, sino política.    ¿Es ahora el FMI un defensor de la "izquierda"? En septiembre de 2009 llevamos a cabo el Primer Encuentro Internacional de Turismo" tanto en Tarapoto, San Martín, Perú, como en la ciudad de Lima, organizado por CENFOTUR. Dear friends, this is my first post in Ecoclub.  Unfortunately I am a native spanish speaker and most of my production is made in spanish (although I do not have lots of it!). I am currently studying a PhD degree that is quite demanding, but in the other side, also very interesting.  This time I'll share with you a text that I produced a few weeks ago and is related toTourism and Hegemony.  In South America, the place where I "live" ecotourism (should I say "where I TRY to live and develop it?), there is a large debate over  subjects such as sustainability, ecotourism or development: is it really helping people to ammeliorate their income or way of life?  The answer is not easy: sometimes it does, some others it doesn't.
