are numerous ecotour options in the vicinity of Dadia.Hiking: A number of forest paths start right next to the Centre, leading to the observatory, and to the Gibrena peak (620 m.) which affords a panoramic view of the park. The park covers an area of 350,000 hectares with two 'absolute protection' core areas of 7,250 ha. The forest's pines, oak and beech trees give shelter to over 200 bird species, 40 reptile and amphibian species, small and larger mammals. Rare birds include the black vulture and the sea eagle. Surrounding the fores, a varied landscape including small rivers, valleys and prairies delights visitors.
Traditional settlements: Visit the village of Dadia, its monastery and old church of Prophet Elias. In the nearby Lefkimmi village, the 16th century church of Virgin Mary.
Outdoor Recreation: in 'Katratzides , 9 km from Dadia, various sports and outdoor living facilities. Visit the Women's Agritourism Cooperative of Dadia and sample hand-made pasta and other traditional recipies.
Soufli - The Silk Road: Soufli town is famous for its silks
as well as its well-preserved 19th c mansions and cobbled
streets. The Courtidis mansion now houses the Silk museum which
illustrates the history of Silk and local related traditions. In
Soufli's high street find various exotic delicacies such as 'telemes',
'kavourmas', 'bambo' and 'bougatsa', and hand-made silk
embroideries of course.
Not to miss: The byzantine fortified city of Didimoteicho, close to the border with Turkey, the imperial monastery in Feres town (12 c.), the Evros Delta Information Centre also in Feres town, where you can book an escorted visit to the famous Evros Delta, which forms part of the corridor of migratory birds from northern Europe to and from Africa.
