ECOCLUB.com Ecotourism Awards 2008
Call for Applications

Athens, Greece - 29 April 2008

Every year, on the 1st of July, to celebrate our founding anniversary, we fund micro-projects initiated & implemented by our Members, which promote ecological change in Tourism, according to the aims of ECOCLUB. Our awards are different, in that they encourage future, concrete action rather than simply acknowledging past achievements, and in that the winners are democratically decided by all Members rather than by a secretive panel of sages. ECOCLUB believes that we can have 'another world' and a better tourism and that these can come about through a peaceful & constructive process and as long as we focus on the basics, the local level, the small-scale.  At that level there are fewer excuses for abstract arguments such as "can we make tourism ecological through better, more efficient, management within the current economic system, or should we seek deeper, systemic changes in the context of an ecological society"? Try either or both, but do try! We can not be dogmatic, but can only encourage our Members to decide for themselves, and to choose the approach they feel more suited to their local conditions. And then to pursue it will all their might.

With the above in mind, and learning from both the successes and the shortcomings of the four previous years of funding such projects, we are now calling for applications for our 5th Annual Awards. This year's broad theme is "Tourism Without Plastic", in literal and figurative terms.

The deadline for receiving completed applications (by email, in text or word format) is Sunday May 25, 2008. Accepted candidate projects will be posted online on Monday June 2, 2008.
