THE FEBRUARY ECO-QUIZ WAS:
"
Origin of a characteristic word used to describe People from the North in the South of a Continent "

The word is "Gringo", a derogatory term often used by Latin Americans when referring to North Americans. Gringo is a corruption of "Griego" =  Spanish for "Greek". In 18th century Spain, Spanish people used the term "Gringo" in the equivalent of the English phrase "it all sounds Gringo to me", to refer to foreigners speaking Spanish with a foreign accent and later to the foreigners itself. I can tell you, in Greece, we use "it all sounds chinese / turkish to me" as we happen to understand greek...

We had a winner, Mr. P.P. from Bucarest, Romania! "
