THE JULY ECO-QUIZ WAS:
What connection do coins have with a King with rather long hair and where?

No winners this month. The key to the answer was that the "hairy" king, is not human, but an animal, the lion ! The lion has been historically a frequent choice for names of currencies. In fact it was used on some of the first coins in history, as a lion's head was the emblem of Lydian King Croesus' state (561-546 BC) in Asia Minor. Some current examples include Leu (Romania), Lev (Bulgaria), Lek (Albania), Leone (Siera Leone).
