Appendix 3 - ESSL Activities The Ecotourism Society of Sri Lanka - Activities 4th November 1999: Ecotourism an Overview - presentation to the members of the Rotary Club of Colombo. 8th April 2000: Half day workshop on principles and concepts of Ecotourism and bio diversity of Sri Lanka - Senior Managers of Aitken Spence Travels Ltd. 10th May 2000: Presentation on principles and concepts and marketing of Ecotourism products to Senior Officials and Directors of the Ceylon Tourist Board. 13th & 20th June 2000: Lecture on Environment in Sinhala and English to Supervisory and Executive Staff of Lanka Oberoi on the invitation of the General Manager. 4th July 2000: Ecotourism an Overview - Presentation to Chauffeur Tourist Guide Lecturers Training Program - 2000 on the invitation of the Ceylon Tourist Board. 7th to 9th July 2000: Two day workshop and study program jointly conducted by The Ecotourism Society of Sri Lanka (ESSL) and the Field Ornithological Group Sri Lanka (FOGSL) on principles, concepts and marketing of Ecotourism products, bio diversity of Sri Lanka, Bird Watching programs and "Bird-Friendly Hotel concept." 31st August 2000: Illustrated Lecture to Post Graduate Students and Faculty Members of the Faculty of Architecture, University of Moratuwa, on Principles of Ecotourism focussing on Eco Lodge characteristics. 18th September 2000: Inaugural Lecture of the Ecotourism Society of Sri Lanka (ESSL) "Ecotourism Destinations in the 21st Century - Harnessing the Market for Responsible Travel" - By Megan Epler Wood, President of the International Ecotourism Society (TIES) based in the US. 19th-23rd September 2000: Workshop on "Developing Sri Lanka as an Ecotourism Destination" - lead Lecturer - Megan Epler Wood, President, The International Ecotourism Society (TIES) for 50 participants from the Private & Public Sectors. October 2000: Workshop was conducted at the Culture Club for 125 persons of the Connaissance Group. 9th June 2001: Workshop on Ecotourism in "Hotel Tree of Life" Kandy. Over 85 participants from the Travel Trade, Universities, Hotel Schools and independent consultants attended. 21st - 23rd.
