We should all learn a lesson from this time, and turn it into action for a better future. This time, for real.

The truth is that this largely conservative, hierarchical industry is not greatly impacted by disasters. Did the 2004 tsunami stop coastal resorts? No. Thus only voters can change Tourism, by electing forces that really care about Ecological Sustainability, Social Justice, Grassroots/Economic Democracy and Peace & Non-Violence. Positive, concrete goals that the tourism industry could and should support after the coronavirus crisis are improved sanitation facilities and access to clean water for communities in many countries and access to refrigeration for all, so that there can be an effective ban on wildlife meat markets. Tourism has once more been proven to be a high-risk industry for all involved (employees, owners, investors), so the risk should be minimised and the only way to do so is to improve the life of communities. No travel is no solution and is also unrealistic, thus unsustainable. We need green travel, better travel, not less travel.
