UK-Spain: TTG reports that overtourism protests and angst are brushed aside by travel agents who sometimes have to convince the more anxious among elderly visitors that protests are just about 'Airbnb'. Gaza: The last restaurant, a Thai restaurant, is no more. The fact that there was still a restaurant while there is no food is by itself amazing. But the main questions are, what will it take for this nightmare to stop, how much damage to our collective psyche, how much cynicism is this mindless slaughter causing, and for how many generations the generated hatred will last in the area... India: A group of Jenu Kuruba, the indigenous people evicted from Karnataka's Nagarhole Tiger Reserve, 40 years ago, have returned and started building houses the traditional way. Voluntourism: an interesting selection of options from NY Times, with a passing reference that it may have more to do with a 'saviour complex' rather than meaningfully/effectively supporting conservation/real progress in those destinations. For example, instead of taking the trip and paying most of the funds to airlines, organizers etc, consider the alternative of donating the same amount to an organization hiring local people and scientists to do the same work. Which one would be more effective. So voluntourism is certainly good for the voluntourist (feel good, CV use, health benefits etc) but of dubious benefit to the destination. Also, voluntourism (for a week or so) is different than long-term volunteering. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/02/travel/6-remote-places-for-a-volunteer-vacation.html?unlocked_article_code=1.E08.ieyz.gq2GqXfizBw8&smid=url-share

Various Marketing & Guide Opportunities - Inkaterra

Added 2019-04-20

Description

Established in 1975, Inkaterra has been at the forefront of ecotourism and sustainable development in Peru. Inkaterra has spent the past four decades dedicated to authentic travel experiences, aiming to preserve biodiversity and local cultures. Its sustainability efforts have gained them membership with diverse alliances, such as Relais & Châteaux, Virtuoso and National Geographic Unique Lodges of the World.

Inkaterra properties are established in the heart of the Machu Picchu cloud forest, deep in the Amazonian rainforest, nestled in the cobblestoned streets of Cusco and surrounded by the rolling hills of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Luxury standards are achieved in all hotels, defined for their eco-friendly design inspired by traditional architecture and built with native materials, in harmony with the environment.

Inkaterra performs scientific research since 1978, defining natural areas where its luxury hotels are established: the Amazon rainforest in Madre de Dios (Inkaterra Reserva Amazónica, Inkaterra Hacienda Concepción, and Inkaterra Guides Field Station), the Machu Picchu cloud forest (Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel and El MaPi by Inkaterra), the Sacred Valley of the Incas (Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba), the city of Cusco (Inkaterra La Casona) and the Cabo Blanco coastline (in development).

Studies on flora and fauna set a benchmark to compare the brand’s future impact. A total of 814 bird species, 365 ant species, 313 butterfly species, and over 100 mammal species have been inventoried within hotel grounds and surroundings. 28 species new to science have been described: 19 orchids, 5 amphibians, 1 butterfly, 2 bromeliads and 1 tropical vine.
