Ecological Features: The property is solar-powered with a back-up generator with solar hot water collector and gas boiler as a back-up in the winter. The building is built into the rock and has a cave which we dug out within the property. The constant year round temperature helps cool the house in the summer. Hemp walls are used to capture and store greenhouse gasses. Thus the building itself is a carbon sink. Rainwater captured from roof and stored in tank. Grey water is recycled to irrigate gardens.
Energy-Saving Features: The lodge is solar powered so no electric bills. External walls are 2.5 ft. thick made with local stone and coated and insulated with three hemp layers and internally with two layers of local yeso plaster and paint. The walls cool the house in the summer and hold warmth in the winter. Straw produced locally used as under-floor insulation. Helping cool the floor in the summer and warm it in the winter.
