TO DO Award goes to Ecuadorian and Indian Community Tourism projects

Added 2024-02-18

Description

The 2024 TO DO Award for socially responsible tourism offered by Germany's Institute for Tourism and Development (Studienkreis für Tourismus und Entwicklung) goes to the projects "Community Tourism Yunguilla" in Ecuador and to "Fernweh Fair Travel – Uplifting Communities" in India. In Ecuador, over the past three decades, around 250 inhabitants of the cloud forest village of Yunguilla have succeeded in developing community ecotourism while stopping the rampant forest overexploitation and gradually reforested the area to the extent that it is now part of a UNESCO biosphere. In India's state of Uttarakhand, at the foothills of the Himalayas, home-stays sustain the livelihoods of over 500 people, mostly women, and support schools and various projects.
