Description
In a landmark decision, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) found that the Swiss Confederation had failed to comply with its duties under the Convention concerning Climate Change and thus violated the rights to family life of KlimaSeniorinnen a group of 2400 older Swiss women. The practical connotations of the ECHR decision are not clear yet and to what extent it may accelerate necessary policy changes, but on the one hand it may influence other international courts while it may encourage cases brought against the other 46 member states of the Council of Europe.
