Canada: Indigenous land defenders convicted

Added 2024-01-16

Description

Three defenders were found guilty of "criminal contempt" by a British Columbia court for opposing the construction of the Coastal GasLink fracked gas pipeline on unceded Wet’suwet’en territory in 2019. They now await their sentence, which can be a hefty fine or even imprisonment. Despite all the nice talk and promises for action against Climate Change, extractivist capitalism is alive and well, also thanks to the laws.
