Citing overcrowding and littering, the Yamanashi prefectural assembly unanimously decided to limit daily visitors to 4,000 and charge a JPY 2,000 (EUR 12) entry fee at the UNESCO World Heritage site. Around 400,000 people climb Mt. Fuji every year, of which a third are international visitors.
