World: Skyscanner YouGov survey indicates increased awareness of sustainable travel

Added 2021-11-05

Description

A survey of over 6,000 people in Australia, Germany, Japan, South Korea, UK and United States conducted in early September 2021, revealed that 65% agrees that making travel more sustainable is vital. However 40% said the pandemic has not changed their attitudes toward travel and only a third claim that they are making more sustainable choices in their daily lives compared to a year ago. A third say they are willing to pay more for a "more environmentally friendly flight". A quarter (23%) say that they do not know how to travel more sustainably, while 26% complain that there aren't enough sustainable travel options, and 24% feel that sustainable travel options come with higher costs. Of course, what people 'say' they will do in a poll, be it travel or election-related, is not always a close match to what they eventually do. It is hard to say if the survey supports the often touted argument that the pandemic has made travellers/consumers consider, let alone purchase, greener services/products, and if so, how long will this effect last once the pandemic is over.
