Greece's Highest Administrative Court ("Symvoulio tis Epikrateias") has blocked a project to install 111 giant wind turbines in a protected area on the southern part of Skyros island, an emerging green tourism destination. The local municipality was against the project. The court found that the turbines would threaten the wellbeing of the Falco Eleonorae ('mavropetritis'). Up to 85% of this migratory falcon species reproduces in Greece during the summer season.
