Added 2023-07-17

Description

Tilos became the first island in the world to become accredited based on the standard for municipalities developed by Zero Waste Europe (ZWE). The island replaced its rubbish dump with a "Centre of Circular Innovation" where all waste sorted and  processed. It includes a composting facility producing  fertiliser on site and a sorting mechanism of 15 waste streams, including coffee capsules, batteries and textiles. Residual waste is transformed into alternative fuel.
