Following a complicated excavation and restoration process that lasted many decades, as the ancient remains were hidden under modern buildings in the heart of the city, music was heard once more after 2,200 years at the Hellenistic-era theatre of Larissa on 2 September 2023 in the form of a performance by the Larissa Symphonic Orchestra.
