According to "Ornithologiki", the Greek Society for the Protection of Birds, less than a month after the huge forest fire in Evros, one of the largest in the history of the EU, the Greek Regional Administration of Macedonia-Thrace proceeded to license a wind power plant within the burnt area, and within a NATURA area, the "Southern Forest Complex of Evros". A government spokesperson claimed that the permit had been issued before the forest fire.
