Description
In the context of a public consultation, Greece's leading environmental organisations have stated their total opposition through detailed criticism, arguing that the proposed Special Spatial Framework for Tourism (SSFT) will not only allow the continuation of the current unplanned and ecocidal tourism model, but will actually worsen the situation!
According to ARKTOUROS, Hellenic Society for the Environment and Culture, Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature, Hellenic Ornithological Society, Prespes Protection Society, Kallisto, Ecological Recycling Society, Association of Greek Town and Country Planners, Greenpeace, MedINA and WWF Greece, the SSFT lacks sufficient scientific basis and documentation, does not prevent the unplanned construction of tourist facilities, includes minimal provisions for environmental protection, allows the construction of extensive tourist facilities on small islands over 30 hectares, does not deal with the phenomenon of saturation in congested island and urban areas and ultimately discredits spatial planning.
The organisations call on the Ministry of Environment to radically revise the plans and reopen the public consultation taking into account the comments of stakeholders.
