Saudi Arabia: Downsizing NEOM mega-project?

Added 2024-04-11

Description

According to a Bloomberg report, "the Line", a controversial 170km-long planned "linear" city and key part of the futuristic NEOM mega-project could be downsized to just 2.4km. The planned project has sparked human rights protests over the expulsion of the Howeitat tribe from the Tabuk region. It is unclear if the rethink has anything to do with the huge costs in combination with the perceived long-term effects on foreign tourist/realty demand for such a project from the war on Gaza, or perhaps the deterioration of Saudi-Israeli relations.
