Description
A new free peak hour mini-bus shuttle service by six French municipalities will enable some of around 120,000 daily commuters from France to Luxembourg's to leave their cars behind and benefit from Luxemburg's unique free public transport services after crossing the border on foot. A welcome development but still a very long way to go until the EU develops reliable, affordable and integrated public transport services, preferably rail infrastructure, within and between its member countries and regions. Since 2020, Luxembourg is the first and only country in the world to offer free public transport to all, including residents and visitors, with no charge for luggage or pets. The 217,000 daily commuters from nearby countries represent nearly half of Luxembourg's work force.
