Peru: New protected area for uncontacted peoples

Description

Peru's government has established the 1.1m ha Yavari Tapiche Indigenous Reserve, a new protected area for "people in isolation and initial contact" deep in the Amazon rainforest near the Peru-Brazil border. The area is home to the Matsés, Remo, Marubo and other unidentified peoples. Threats include drug trafficking and illegal logging.
