UK: Brontë sisters birthplace to be renovated under community ownership

Added 2024-04-10

Description

The terraced house in Thornton, West Yorkshire, first home of the Brontës, the famous literary family, until 1820, has been saved after a community share offer by the Bronte Birthplace Campaign, and will be refurbished and open to the public for Bradford’s year as UK CIty of Culture in 2025. A community share offer in the UK is a democratic way for community-led organizations and co-operatives to raise money for assets that benefit the community.
