Keeping a key election promise, UK's Labour Government has introduced plans, now approved by both houses of parliament, to renationalise trains! A milestone signifying the global retreat of neoliberalism? A cynic would observe that when investment is needed or the rail business is not booming, the state takes over, just like it happened with banks during the global financial crisis, then they donate back to the "investors". Commuters will probably hope safety will increase and ticket prices will decrease, and this, beyond ideology, will ultimately determine the success, extent and the depth of the renationalisation.
