Thailand: Pandemic-related tourism collapse also affects captive elephants and keepers

Mongabay reports on the mixed fates of some 2,700 captive elephants during the pandemic, previously and controversially used for tourism-related activities, a USD 500m business. Some were led back to rural villages, some fed with the help of NGOs, others spent the year chained and yet others diverted to domestic tourism.
