Spain: Government may reduce tourist VAT rate

Reyes Maroto, the Spanish Tourism Minister said that one of the measures being considered is a reduction in the tourist VAT which now stands at 10%. Balearics business representatives welcomed the news. Numerous studies around the world have found that VAT is regressive, i.e. hurts poorer households more and thus is an unfair tax.
