The new Strategy, is outlined in a 50-page document, sent to state governments and trade associations. It focuses on minimizing greenhouse gas emissions, waste generation and the environmental impact of tourism and encourages reuse of existing buildings. A new national Certification Scheme for Sustainable Tourism in India is planned along with a sustainable tourism ranking of Indian States. A more detailed National Action Plan will follow so as to implement the Strategy.
