India: Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary improves sanitation for local community

Description

In return for a pledge by local residents to stop defecating in the forest areas the sanctuary authorities have allocated 10% of ecotourism proceeds to construct new toilets in nine houses and repaired 76 toilets in Amjhar village. Since 2014 India's government has made considerable efforts to reduce open defecation, under the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM or Clean India Mission) with the construction of over 90 million toilets in line withSustainable Development Goal 6.2 (SDG 6.2 - Universal Access to Sanitation).
