Ecological Features: Runs on solar during the day. Own deep bore hole. Many established community assistance projects, Cultural tourism local village, lodge supplied with some fruit and veg by local villagers also milk. We have our own permaculture vegetable garden also. Established Luwawa environmental Trust to assist local people with sustainable management of the indigenous forests and natural resources. Set up local craft cooperative to assist local people with income generation. We have planted many indigenous trees in the area and have permission to build an environmental education centre for local schools
Energy-Saving Features: Water heated from wood waste from the plantation forest. Energy saving bulbs through out, waste is recycled as much as possible.
Environmental Conservation Features: Luwawa environmental Trust is operated by the lodge management. The trust is a co partner with local villages in helping local people with sustainable management of the indigenous forests. Management of Luwawa Dam is on a sustainable use basis. Environmental education courses are run by the lodge for local and international schools. Bird watching courses, Indigenous tree planting, bee keeping, Environmental educational way marked walking trails.
Description of Location: The lodge is located In the South Viphya Forest in Mountains of Northern Malawi overlooking Luwawa Dam. Only 10 km east from the M1 the northern arterial road through Malawi 200 km north of Lilongwe International Airport.

Nearby Attractions (within 50 km): Bird watching at the lodge is excellent. Dam close by for fishing and boating. Excellent hiking and mountain biking on the forest trails. Sauna in the beautiful gardens. Rock-climbing / abseiling 30 mins away. Waterfall and gorge 12 km. High mountain plateau 20 km. Orchids in the riverine valleys.
Best way to reach the property from abroad, by public transport and private transport: Arrive Lilongwe International Airport. 3 hrs drive north up the M1 (or Bus from Lilongwe the capital city). Transport available from main road to the lodge. Just ring us.
Any other points: Won the Malawi Governments Ministerial Tourism award in 2008 for community participation and sustainable Tourism Practices. Extremely beautiful location overlooking Luwawa Dam. Well established profitable business (16 years) with International clients from all the main Safari Companies in Malawi such as Wilderness Safaris and a very good local trade + teambuilding, retreats, schools etc.
Update: 31 July 2019:
The lodge has now taken over a further 136 HA of forested land from the Malawi Government which we manage as an Environmental Protection Zone, rather like a mini National Park. There are 20HA approximately of Mature Pine trees which we have the exclusive right to harvest and sell and replace with natural indigenous trees.
We are open to offers on the lodge (the eco Tourism Business as a going profitable concern)+ and EPZ project. management. It would suit someone with Forestry/Tourism experience. The professional Forest Management Plan has been produced and approved by the Malawi Government.
