Ecological Features of the Property:
Our environmental impact study was approved by the ministry of environment. In order to respect the environment, we use natural resources; buildings are 95% powered by solar energy. Diesel and gas Generator provide electricity to the restaurant as a backup. All rooms have 24 hours of electricity. For the water supply, we use rainwater falling on the roof to be collected in large basements under the terraces. Wastewater: A large basement connects all buildings. The basement consists of different compounds with filters installed. After filtering the water can be used for irrigation.
We use energy efficient lamps, fridges and fans.
Environmental Conservation Features:
The furniture in the rooms & restaurant is hand-made by local carpenters. The wood comes from a small village some 80 km from Mahahual. Trees are grown in a sustainable way. We use solar lights for outdoor lighting. Our garden is full of local plants. We use seagrass as fertiliser. We do not touch mangrove or cut trees.

Best way to arrive at the property:
Fly into Cancun and either rent a car or take the direct ADO bus to Mahahual. The airport of Chetumal, at some 140 km from Mahahual is being remodelled and will soon function as an international airport.

All the permits, land titles, environmental impact study and all business permits are in order. Tax and social security payments are up to date. Maya Luna has a permit to build 2 more bungalows. In October 2015, the new Land use plan (POEL = Programa de Ordenamiento Ecological Local) was approved and Maya Luna is now located in an Urban Area. This will result in an augmentation of the number of rooms that can be built to an estimated 20 to 40 extra rooms.
