@Scientists break the genetic code of malaria mosquito, and of the parasite that causes malaria and hope to eradicate the disease killing three million people each year. 

@Acidic clouds of Venus could harbour life say scientists, as they also contain plenty of water. Until now Venus was regarded as one of the least likely places in the solar system to find life.

@Over half of Europe will be online by 2007. A Jupiter Media's survey revealed that by the end of 2002 only 10% of Europeans will have paid for content online. 40% would not consider paying for content in the future. Of those prepared to put their online hand in pocket, 23% would be willing to pay for music, 17% for video and 16% for news and archives. Of the $ 200 million spent on online content this year, nearly half is on pornography.

@ICANN, the group overseeing the Internet's address system said Monday it has selected the non-profit "Internet Society" to manage domain names ending in ".org" starting next year. The new registry will take over registration of the ".org" domain from VeriSign.

THE GEORGE ORWELL COLLECTION: George goes private

The "Global Privacy Alliance" hopes the European Commission has taken on board its concerns about harsh data protection laws in the EU. They make it "difficult for US firms to do business in Europe", the group says. Among other things the "Global Privacy Alliance" wants the relaxation of restrictions on data sharing between affiliate companies. E.U. Commissioner Bolkerstein said that the European Commission had been persuaded that some changes to the EU privacy regulations should be made.
