The BirdLife Cyprus report on bird trapping with nets for autumn 2022 is encouraging as it is almost half (49%) of autumn 2021 figures, and 91% lower than 2002. The NGO attributes the decrease to the ongoing collaboration between BirdLife Cyprus, the RSPB and CABS and the competent authorities to tackle this illegal activity. The imposing of a EUR 2,000 fine for bird trapping with nets has also helped. However, bird trapping with limesticks is increasing, as fines for this method have been relaxed!
