Added 2022-02-04

Description

Svandís Svavarsdóttir, Iceland's Fisheries Minister and a leading Member of the Left-Green Movement party, told media that the decision to not issue new quotas for commercial whaling will have a negligible impact on the economy of Iceland. Svavarsdóttir also pointed out that demand is falling with consumption of whale meat in Japan, the biggest export market, has been declining for years. Thus, whale watching, rather than whaling, is the future in Iceland too!
