An online petition against a hotel helipad addressed to Karnataka's Tourism Minister has received thousands of signatures within a few hours. Activists point out that the 60 green acres of land surrounding the Lalitha Mahal hotel host 180 species of butterflies and 77 species of birds and that sustainable tourism rather than luxury heli-tourism was the right choice for Mysuru, one of five model cities chosen by UN-habitat.
