ECOCLUB participated in Ecolife 2005 Fair in Athens, June 3 - 6

The General Secretary of the Greek Ministry of Development opens the Fair

The ECOCLUB Team confer before the opening

To celebrate World Environment Day, ECOCLUB took part in ECOLIFE, the first major Environmental Fair in Athens, as an exhibitor, between Friday 3 and Monday 6 June, at the Athens Olympic Sports Complex. Some 1,500 people visited our stand, among them some of our Members in Athens, well known environmental journalists and tourism writers, many aspiring ecotourists and ecotourism entrepreneurs. It was a unique opportunity to enlighten the Greek public as to the intricacies of genuine Ecotourism, and to measure their understanding by carrying out a survey on Ecotourism and the problems of tourism and the Environment in Greece. The results of the survey are currently being analysed and will be presented in future issues of the news.

The first of its kind in Greece, the Ecolife festival featured all services relating to the environment - ranging from organic honey to photovoltaic systems and degradable beds made out of latex and coconut husks. Surprisingly despite the seeming lack of promotion, the turnout was high, perhaps also owing to the appearance of the first really summery days!

Set in the impressive ""Agora" area of the brand-new Olympic Stadium complex in Athens, the trade-show was easily accessible by public transport, thus increasing its "greenness". Around 90 exhibitors were present, neatly arranged down two corridors each side of the entrance with a great variety, ranging from organic cheese and wine, free range eggs (and hens!) to huge renewable energy installations, to feng shui stuff. Two round tables were also conducted with fair success, one on organic produce and one on ecolabelling.

Visitors found the ECOCLUB stall equally impressive featuring pictures with commentary highlighting the people, activities and architecture of ecotourism and some of the problems of tourism. Observing the interested parties that asked for clarification on the functions of ECOCLUB and ecotourism in particular, some had the impression that ecotourism always involved some kind of (involuntary / voluntary?) work at the area visited. These and other misconceptions were tackled and the philosophy of genuine ecotourism was put forward.

1,500 eco enthusiasts visited our stand

Visitors even endured the midday heat.

New ECOCLUB Ecolodge in Italy

Podere Tegline

Podere Tegline, is a historic and tranquil organic farm on 50 hectares, located in central Italy, in the heart of Tuscany, in that land of rolling hills called Chianti between Siena and Florence, famous for its history, art, culture, for its wine and extra virgin olive oil. The farmhouse, dates back to the year 1537, mentioned as “Luogo deto Tegline” in the Carte dei Capitani di Parte Guelfa from the Florentine Republic. Starting in 2000 the owner Simonetta Bolognesi, has re-established the old olive groves, planted new vineyards and cautiously restored the old principal farm house to be able to accommodate her guests. The original farm layout has been carefully maintained to capture and preserve the evocative feeling of its agricultural past. This is still a working farm, and in collaboration with the "Control Organism of Biological Products AIAB" ( Italian Association Biological Farming ) Podere Tegline produces Chianti Classico Wine DOCG Gallo Nero and extra virgin Olive Oil.
