UK Travel Advisory for Greece now includes Camping and Motorhome purge

Following the recent introduction of stringent regulations considering caravanning holidays in Greece, the UK's Foreign travel advice for Greece has acquired a new section titled Camping and Motorhome travel. It now states that "Greece has introduced regulations prohibiting camping in tents and the parking of trailers, semi-trailers, camper vans and motorhomes at archaeological sites, seashores, beaches, edges of public forests and in general public areas. Ensure that you used licensed campsites to avoid fines." A shorter version would be, "if you are thinking of visiting Greece in a caravan, don't" (especially if you were thinking of turning your caravan into a short-term-letting even if its parked on your own land). The more accurate version however would be, even though the Greek government has re-re-introduced "new" stringent regulations (bordering on absurdity) against caravanning, chances are that they will be once more ignored by remote local communities having long-term symbiotic summer-time relations with caravanning, especially in areas that do not have organised camping sites or expensive 5-star hotels and villa developments nearby.
