OVERVIEW

Pamvotis Lake, surrounding the historic city of Ioannina, the capital of Epirus region, is one of the oldest lakes worldwide aged approximately 7 million years. It is a member of the Natura 2000 European network of protected areas and an important habitat for over 170 species of birds including the globally threatened ferruginous duck (Aythya nyroca).
