La Selva Jungle Lodge, an ECOCLUB Rated Ecolodge, are about to begin an ambitious upgrade to the property which will include renovations and innovations such as an ‘Indigenous Spa’, a treatment center with Amazon herbs, juices, and crèmes to detoxify, energize, treat the skin and hair of the guests with all products being sustainably harvested from the rainforest. In addition, work on a new Animal Rescue Center will begin as soon as a animal rescue specialist joins the team. As Eric Schwartz, La Selva proprietor explains “the object, is to rescue wild animals from the illegal animal trade and to reintroduce them, as soon as they are healthy, back into the wild”.
In nature news a giant otter, male, has begun to colonize the nearby lake and can be seen daily fishing in solitary. While there are two colonies of otter on another lake which is about 2 km away, this one appears to have been thrown out of a colony somewhere -and not solitary creatures -should soon bring a mate. The resident biologists say this process of colonization has never been documented before and they are keeping a careful eye on the otter!
To celebrate all these positive changes, in the face of the economic crisis, and to make the La Selva experience more affordable to nature enthusiasts, the Ecolodge is offering a 30% discount on all packages for the month of May 2009!
