Tourindia, the Kerala-based tour operator credited with pioneering houseboat tourism, has been shortlisted for the 2010 Tourism for Tomorrow Awards.
Over160 entries were received this year from over 45 countries, according to the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), the award organizers. The judging committee arrived in Kerala in mid-February to take note of the various services of Tourindia. Tourindia has been shortlisted in the 'Community Benefit' category which deals with contribution to cultural heritage, fair wages and opportunities created for the local community. The two other finalists in this category are Namibia's Communal Conservancy Tourism Sectory and New Zealand's Whale Watch Kaikoura. The winners will be announced in the Global Travel and Tourism Summit which will be held in Beijing, May 25-27.
