Dominica - 13 May 2009
The first ever Dominica International EcoFest ‘A celebration of the world’s progress on saving our beautiful planet’ just took place at Rosalie Forest Eco Lodge, Dominica, and was a magnificent event. EcoFest was a week long program comprising of panel discussion, guest speakers and renewable energy workshops, and the participants learned about making Gas using compost, diesel using veggie oil, and the use of solar and wind power. Speakers taught how to get funding for projects, and the arts and crafts workshops and yoga day were fascinating and fullfilling.
Each day showcased a different genre of Dominica music; reggae, steel pan, jing ping, rock, calypso and more, and dancing continued despite the heavy rainfall, which could not dampen the spirit of EcoFest in any way; with everyone having a great time, tasting the local cuisine, and sipping some Dominican rum delicacies.
A range of community activities available on the island were also showcased, and the community turtle conservation group were involved in the programme too.
Through sometimes lively discussions, the value of the world’s progress on saving our beautiful planet was explored and scrutinized, and a thought provoking time was had by all.
EcoFest conference heard enlightening presentations from a massive range of Dominica experts and stakeholders, as well as representatives from India and McGill University in Canada on BioGas, Barbados on Biodiesel, and Greece from Ecoclub, the international ecotourism club.
If you missed it; you missed out, so book early next year!
