Interviewed by ECOCLUB.com, Yannis Vardakastanis, Proprietor of Ionian Eco Villagers & head of Earth Sea & Sky, an NGO working in sea turtle protection in the Ionian island of Zakynthos, Greece, argued that there is no need for more hotels on the island and that the number of visitors must be reduced to ease the immense pressure off the island...According to Mr Vardakastanis, "there are too many tourists, turtle chasing activities, excessive light pollution, human waste and rubbish, all impacting greatly" on the fragile eco-system of Zakynthos, a popular charter destination.
