Happy 2011!

Mashiramo Project in Colombia, one of the three ECOCLUB.com Grant recipients in 2010An eminent astrologist claims that the year of the metal rabbit will prove peaceful and diplomatic. Will he have a job this time next year? Will anyone? Is there an immediate green solution to the crisis, and is ecological & socially just tourism a significant component of it?

Opinions and new year wishes were divided in our end of year Member Poll. But were are all the problems listed, climate change, hunger, oppression, war, the results or perhaps the ingredients of capitalism? Chicken and Egg. Beyond criticising and opposing, which are also necessary, what can we do? Our own things, our own way: very happy to report that the three community projects in Nepal, Chile and Colombia chosen by our Members have been fully implemented on time and that we are currently in the process of collecting invoices and receipts from organisers so as to send them their ECOCLUB.com Grant payment. Related information will be posted in the first weeks of 2011.

ECOCLUB was already an alternative, self-funded, worker-managed, online network long before venture capitalists started throwing millions to create what effectively became Big Brother 2.0 (rather than Web 2.0). We are optimistic that heartless, corporate social networks, which survive by selling their users data to marketeers, endless fodder to consumerism and ultimately capitalist ecocide, will not last long. As Bob Marley sang, you can fool some people some times...

In 2011 we hope to expand our network, improve its linkages with the broad green-left movement, attract members that truly share our philosophy, and deepen the cooperation between members along the principle of mutual aid for ecology, climate justice & social change!

The ECOCLUB.com Team wishes one and all a green, progressive, fruitful and enjoyable 2011!
