Singapore-based developers Royal Group of Companies obtained "world’s first Islamic green financing in the hospitality sector" amounting to USD 186.6m from Maybank Singapore to upgrade Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa and construct another hotel, Raffles Sentosa Resort & Spa Singapore, along the principles of sustainability. As Shariah prohibits interest the bank will share in the profit.
