Opportunities for ecotourism in Slovakia: an international online conference

With the ever more pressing issues related to sustainable regional development, nature use and nature protection not only in protected areas, ecotourism is viewed as the right form of tourism successfully addressing these topics. As a result, several experts from both Slovakia and abroad joined the online conference from 17th till 18th September to share their expertise, best practice and lessons learnt. Through presentations and discussions with the audience, the aim of the conference has been to reveal the opportunities, analyse their potential as well as propose solutions to the problems in developing sound nature-based tourism in Slovakia.

In the picture below, Nina Breck and Diana Körner, who are members of Linking tourism and Conservation community, are proudly holding their handbook on "Best practices for developing ecotourism in support of national parks in Slovakia".  The rich content of this handbook varies from valuable information about the current trends in favour of ecotourism, detailed comparison of several international caste studies introducing best practice to insightful recommendations for further ecotourism development.

The conference has been realised withing the project "Fewer barriers for more benefits in utilising nature" and is supported by a program ACF – Slovakia, which is financed from the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014-2021. An administrator of the program is Ekopolis Foundation in partnership with Open Society Foundation Bratislava and Carpathian Foundation.
