South Africa: Ryanair ends controversial Afrikaans language test

Added 2022-06-17

Description

Following sharp criticism from authorities, commentators and passengers, and claiming that it was just an effort to combat 'fraudulent' South African passports, the low-cost airline, no stranger to controversy, scrapped a geography test in Afrikaans, a language nowadays mostly spoken by the white minority. The idea for the test was so ill-conceived that some wonder if it was some sort of a perverse publicity stunt.
