The on-the-spot visa will be valid for 7 days and include the following east Aegean islands: Chios, Kalymnos, Kos, Kastelorizo, Lemnos, Leros, Lesvos, Rhodes, Samos and Symi. The decision was announced in the context of the 5th meeting of the Greek-Turkish 'High-Level Cooperation Council' held in Athens, on 7 Dec. 2023. With the two countries regularly blaming each other for treatment of refugees and migrants (essentially a lethal game of ping-pong with human beings) it will be interesting to see how the new visa regime, apparently pre-approved by the EU as Greece is a member of the Schengen zone, will work in practice and affect migration flows and policies.
