Booni is Where Beauty of Nature Never Ceases to Enchant

Booni, a beautiful town 85 kilometer to the north-east of Chitral Town, is the headquarters of the newly established district Chitral Upper in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The residents of Booni are Khos, and they speak 'Khowar' which is spoken and understood throughout Chitral valley. Urdu, the national language of Pakistan, along with English is also spoken and understood.

The climate is considered to be a local steppe climate. During the year there is little rainfall. This climate is considered to be BSK according to the Köppen-Geiger climate classification. The average annual temperature in Booni is 15.6 °C. About 418 mm of precipitation falls annually.

The Booni Zom group is a prominent mountain range along with Booni Zom (main) is the highest peak of the group with an elevation of 6,542 m (21,463 ft). It is located about 50 km (30 mi) northeast of the town of Chitral, and about 50 km (30 mi) east of Tirich Mir (7,708 m), the highest peak in Chitral valley.

In 1957, the New Zealanders W.K.A. Berry and C.H. Tyndale-Biscoe accomplished the first ascent of the Main Peak of Booni Zom from the steep razorlike north ridge. The second ascent was in 1975 by Japanese Masao Okabe, Hideo Sato and Shigeru Tabe and third ascent was in 1979 by Americans Joe Reinhard and Richard J. Isherwood both from south face.

The Booni Zom group has many other peaks, some of which have been climbed. There are 12 peaks over 6,000 m (19,700 ft) in the Booni Zom group which are still unclimbed.

It is also famous for its local variety of rice crop called 'nali' in local language.
