EU: "Ecotourism ideal for job generation under Green New Deal" - MEP Michael Cramer

Michael Cramer, Member of the European Parliament for the European Green Party, recently visited the border region between Greece Bulgaria and Turkey to launch an ecotourism initiative called the “Iron Curtain Trail”involving cycling along the 7,000 km cold war border dividing Eastern & Western Europe. Talking to ECOCLUB.com Michael Cramer spoke about the key ingredients of genuine Ecotourism, the use of trains and bicycles in European Tourism, and criticized mega-resorts currently under construction in the Mediterranean, cheap airlines and the car culture. The green parliamentarian pointed out that the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty will give more powers to the European parliament to “influence in a more efficient way decisions on sustainable tourism”. According to Michael Cramer, under a Green New Deal, the ecotourism sector would be an ideal field to create jobs.
